On 5th June, an indefinite ban on social media platform Twitter was issued which stopped users within Nigeria from accessing the platform due to the deletion of tweets by the President, Muhammadu Buhari. The impact of this ban as been strenuous for the Nigerian People as the platform did not only serve as a means of communication between youths as well as a source of income to uprising and already famous twitter influencers as well as a meeting place for prospective buyers and sellers of goods and services online and offline. This platform also served as a place where maltreatment as well as corruption is shown to the public.
Most people within the country believe kidnapping as well as other crimes not only by the civilians but the police authority as well were minimized because of this platform as it served as an impartial judge. U.S. former president Donald Trump praised the decision of the President and the Cultural Minister Lai Mohammed issued licenses which the platform must submit-to if it intends on operating in Nigeria.
Within all this, an issue for the arrest of twitter users with the use of VPN was said to have been issued, this did not dissuade the Nigerian Twitter users as more and more memes were seen online portraying how people now use VPN to operate their twitter accounts.
